Consider the ravens.

Fearless.

It is my word for 2023.

This one word all stemmed from three words.

Three words from the book of Luke.

Three words on my heart that I haven’t been able to shake.

“Consider the ravens.”

Consider. The. Ravens.

As I went through many days worried about Brady and what this year would hold for his health, these words were always there.

As I was thinking about how God could use this nonprofit to help those hurting, these words came back to the surface.

As I researched and debated if I was up to the challenge of what He was leading us towards, I couldn’t shake them.

These words.

These simple, simple words.

Consider the ravens.

Jesus spoke these three simple words as he preached one of the most important messages ever delivered.

His goal was to convince those listening that if God provides for the ravens each and every day, and He loves us much more than the birds in the sky, then what good is it to worry?

What good is it to live in fear of not having what we need for every day that we are given?

“Consider the ravens,” Jesus said, “they do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than birds!”

He continued, “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?”

Why? Why do we worry?

Worrying is just a way the enemy keeps us busy so that it distracts us from the future God has planned for us.

Consider the ravens.

They don’t worry.

Yet they are provided for.

They don’t store up food to have “just in case”.

They trust that each day they will find exactly what they need.

And you and I are worth far more than them.

Far, far more.

So why worry?

And if we aren’t going to worry, then why not just go ahead and be brave. Be strong. Be fearless.

I’m going to be brave knowing that any day our son’s cancer could return.

I’m going to be strong in knowing that each and every piece of this journey has been for a specific purpose.

I’m going to be fearless in knowing that the Lord is guiding the timing of each step we take every single day.

Consider the ravens.

Fearless.

May this year be a year when we hold up our shield vowing to not be wounded by the things being slung towards us and may we pull out our swords to fight back against every lie that is trying to distract us from the plans and future God has for us.

May this year be a year we walk in the fullness of the calling that God has put in our hearts.

May we walk in confidence and peace knowing His love and will for our life is to do something unbelievably amazing through each of us.

May we find joy and hope in knowing that our eyes are fixed on the One who created it all. The One who has promised us an eternal life. The one who will not leave us or forsake us. The Alpha and Omega. The beginning and the end.

May we never forget to consider the ravens.

Shields up.

Swords out.

Let’s be fearless together, Kristin
